Mark, very nice pipe, I like the white. What is the white finish done with? Have you done them before and how does it hold up. I apoligize for so many questions. Thanks! All I put on the pipe was carnuba wax. Actually, the picture is a little washed out. I use natural light, trying to stay out of d...

My Brother's Christmas Present

I made my brother a pipe for Christmas. It is listed as pipe 3306 on the first page of my website, at the link below.

Hope you have a prosperous and healthy new year.

Mark

Wilbur, you can make pipes with less than what has been mentioned here. I use the following: drill press (drilling briar) Taig lathe (drilling rod and delrin) delta belt/disc combo (disc for squaring blocks prior to setting them up on the drill press-very important) (belt for cutting stems, and limi...

I have a rusticated pipe in my collection that I bought in the late eighties that has darkened in all but one spot. Yes, a very skillful fill in a rusticated pipe. I did not see the fill when I bought the pipe, and I have never considered that brand since (they are still being made). Naturally, I do...

Since I launched my P&T contest pipe, I have always used latex gloves when buffing (cheapies, $2 for two pair). They provide a much better grip than bare fingers. I have made 26 pipes since the contest pipe, and I have not launched a single one. I can't remember who gave me that tip, but it was ...

Nick, the adjustments you made on the seahorse really improved the pipe. Nice job. To my eye, the saucer's profile view would look better with one continuous taper from the shank/bowl junction to the button (without the hitch/flair on the bottom of the the stem). I do think you did a heck of a job s...

If you have a copy of the winter 2005 issue of P&T, look at the picture of my pipe on page 16 (the square pipe as Chuck S called it). (It is also pictured on page one of my website). That pipe had dents from being ripped out of my hands during the final buff and slung into the hardest thing on m...

Very nice pipe Scott.

My only recommendation is to change your signature from "pipe making hopeful" to "pipemaker"

There are probably several ways to do this, but here are some recommendations. Others may have different recommendations. After rustication, one can -Wire brush the pipe to remove loose bits of wood remaining from the rustication -Sand the high spots lightly to smooth out the rustication to the hand...

Read the New Pipe thread started by Flix. It should help you get your pipe posted.

You can also create a space in the gallery section of this website, post pics there, then create a link in your thread, I think.

Or, if you already have the pipe somewhere on the web, just post a link.

New pipe

I finally finished the horn-like pipe, and delivered it to the Pipe and Pint. Those who saw the "on the workbench pics" I posted may remember this as a smooth pipe. The brown stain did nothing to ease the pain of the surface pits, and I rusticated the pipe with a new for me rustication tec...
