Once you get it down, it's not that hard at all, even on a wood lathe.
Iv never made pipes using lathes, so i didnt even consider it. Makes one feel a little stupido. :>

Finally some more olives! And now cracks either! Its great that you continue with your experiments. You will learn a lot from them. Iv always liked the poker and its a shape im planning on working alot with. I would always aim for a straight line from bottom to top of the stummel. the lower left cor...

The flip side to lowering a high price later is that any of your customers that bought in at the higher prices will feel shorted if they see your pipes selling for significantly less. It might be easier to sell pipes if you lower the price, but if you tick off your customers at the same time, it's ...

I havnt been selling any pipes, but from past business experience, its easier to lower a high price than to increase a low price. Just reading that makes it sound obvious, but taking it into practise has made a big difference for my company. If you make a deal for a slightly higher price than what y...

..ebay crazy..
Know what you mean. There are so many pipes on the bay that people cant keep track of all of them. Sometimes you run across something really good. Iv always bought a little too much on ebay, but i havent gone into the estate-lot fever yet.

I think this has to do with what details you add to work depending on price. Clearly every pipe is the result of calcultion between time spent on making and aimed price class. You pick a block, decide what qualities its gonna have and how you motivate those qualities with the right price. Perhaps th...

It would be proof of that the maker of the pipe used careful measurement and good methods of drilling. I think, in the case of pipe making, a quality usually comes with another. Many things affect the smoking directly, but the small thigs that makes the pipe what it is, is proof of good craftmanship...

Hey Tyler, I took a bundle o'nails once, slapped some duct tape around 'em and chucked 'em up in my lathe at low speed. I came to my senses before I hurt myself. Haha thats funny. I can imagine how it all happened. "ok we got some nails and some... umm.. duct tape here. lets do this" Cant...

Nothing magical with the finish...
I agree. The grain does all the talking. Very, very nice shape aswell! The straight top makes the lines collaborate smoothly.

It would be real fun to see what olive would look like sand blasted! Future project perhaps? :)

Wouldn't a wire wheel put small scratch marks in the briar? By wheeling it from different directions after you've nailed it you might get it right. Suppose you need a wheel with pritty long and perhaps softer wires. Im gonna try it on a pipe im working with atm. Ill put some pictures up in a couple...

I get a somewhat similar effect with my wire wheel. Some of the valleys seem to be going almost vertically at the bottom, so id say wheel, definately. I saw a thread somewhere about creating a nails-o-death piece to be fitted into drills etc. Ill look around and see if i find it.

Looks better, but i agree with rad. It would look better if you shaved off some of the top top of the shank there.

Making scrap pipes must be a great thing to learn. Bet it saves alot of money.
