Slightly less Danish than Wayne's Danish Dublin Dublin
Slightly less Danish than Wayne's Danish Dublin Dublin
I forgot to add all the lumpy bits. Maybe next time
This was a weird piece of briar, the grain is vertical on the yz axis and totally splayed through the xy axis, so a straight grain pipe would have to be a big long flat fan shape, not something I was especially keen on. But this came out not bad.
This is all freehand - the stem was rounded out and tenoned on the lathe, but the rest is just mad karvin skillz.

That's a great looking pipe, Sas. Very Peterson-esque. Last I checked, Peterson is not especially Danish so it's decidedly less Danish than my Dublin. I really like that shape though nonetheless. Nice job as usual.

It's a gift I have Wayne - give me a 40 dollar plateaux and 8 hours, and I will make a factory-lookin' pipe.

Very classy looking. I sorta see the Pete-ness, but theres no doubt thats two different levels of quality.
Maybe if you stained it really dark and swabbed it on extra thick inside the bowl, you could compete with the Peterson?

I'd need to thicken the stem and add a few fills too, and I think it's probably not worth the trouble.Edward wrote:Very classy looking. I sorta see the Pete-ness, but theres no doubt thats two different levels of quality.

Nice work Sassie, big and sexy, just like you!

Mr Sasquatch,
I know you didnt ask for criticism, but I think I can offer you a few pointers.
First off, the bend in your stem is way too smooth and refined.
What your going for is angular, one single sharp dramatic bend a half inch from the bit.
Also, your bit should be thick enough to withstand abuse from teething mongrel puppies, at least 3-4 times thicker than what you have here.
The stain you use is very important.
Kids these days dont really go for muted wood grains. Refer to a some medical books for insight on more natural color combinations.
Sickly hues of purplish-brown and inflamed shades of red and orange will catch the eye (and wallet!) more quickly.
The last part is more subjective, however a smooth pipe is a boring pipe.
You could add some well placed fills around the bowl, or ask your supplier for a more interesting grade of material. Either way, I've tried (as much as I possibly can) to clean up your pipe in photoshop and hopefully point out some changes that could be made in the future.

Actually, I did ask for criticism, but I didn't get any because my aura is too awesome for these turkeys.
I will keep your ideas in mind next time I am making a pipe for the hipsters, Edward.

Is that what you're calling it? Aura? I think everyone is just afraid of your wrath (and your mad Photoshop skilz.)

I think Edward is on to something!
