That was a pre-form stem that I started with.
I'm still learning lighting, here's a better picture of the cherry:

Bent nose warmer
This has a wild black cherry stem inlay. I know it's not perfect, but I'm trying to improve. The stem/shank junction is not exactly perfect, but it sure will smoke nicely. http://mriverapipes.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/20130327-000635.jpg http://mriverapipes.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/20130327-000...

I like 7. Good advice too. I think the bottom line is that because well made pipes are not always readily available to study, as in my case, it is easy to socum to the idea that this is a relatively easy craft. Having only seen dr. Grabow and pictures online, I didn't have a realistic idea of the de...

Sorry everyone, I couldn't resist the ironic moment...

Re: Bullmoose
you asked.. so yes I would have rusticated it simply due to the flaws.. although minor... thier big enough to take away from the grain in my opinion. I have one right now I'm working that has wonderful grain but too many little blemishes...so it will be rusticated.. grain aside james I think if I h...

I won't lie, this got my juices flowing: http://www.pipemakersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=7184 Obviously not going for an exact copy but I liked the style. I almost rusticated it but decided not to. Would you have? http://mriverapipes.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/20130309-125920.jpg http...

Re: Fun "wizard" pipe project
Cool, I obviously wasn't speaking from a perspective of experience or vast knowledge. I really wasn't worried about it being a good material in terms of health, safety or durability. My line of thinking was more along the lines of that steel tube heating up because it is directly inserted into or a...

I'm no expert but I have a feeling that the stainless is going to cause you problems at some point. I dig the shape of the bowl and applaud your efforts here but those smarter than I could probably tell you why you don't see anyone using stainless for pipe construction. But hey if it smokes nice an...

Very unique. What inspired you to make this style? It seems like an interesting take on a "peace pipe". Is that a functional cap on the bottom?

Fun "wizard" pipe project
So my asked me a while ago to make him a pipe "like Aragorn's from Lord of the Rings." It wasn't really something I'd done before but it sounded fun. I did after all do nothing but stare at the pipes in the latest movie "The Hobbit". He told me to be creative, so this is what I c...
Re: "E" pipes
I've tried the e cigs from friends and they're really tasty. Plus you can smoke them anywhere. They don't fall under any tobacco or smoking laws technically. An e pipe isn't supposed to be the same experience, but don't knock til you've tried it. I have wondered myself how hard it would be to make o...

Re: And another.....Natural Pot
I by much appreciate that style in my own personal pipe, unstained, flaws and all. It makes it feel a little more personal. I like it! I would smoke it! It could be just me but it seems to be slightly thicker where the stem meets the shank.

Curing cherry and apple wood
I have the opportunity to harvest some black cherry and apple wood. I plan on keeping branches and twigs for projects/stem work, but how should I go about drying/curing it well enough to function as a bowl? Do I boil it like briar after its harvested or just let it dry? Also, some of the apple is al...
