Running Pipe - Makers in Germany

Post by jogilli »

On 19 October 2013 several of the up and coming pipemakers on this east side of the Atlantic Ocean came up with the spontaneous idea to create a Running Pipe Set for charity while showing our wares at the in Speyer Pipe Show/Exhibition. The original thought was that it would be a complete set to include a Pipe, a Pipe Tamper and Pipe Box. Dirk Heinemann created a rough draft sketch and the show and the fun began….. the sketch was followed shortly by HaJo Ziglowski starting out the effort by drilling and shaping the stummel.

It traveled around Germany where a stem was made (James Gilliam), finishing was done (Uwe Maier), a tamper created (Tommi Teichmann), the commemoration box made (Peter Michalski), a painting was completed (Peter Reuschling). The pipe and accessories travelled back and forth until the set was complete and a cute little name was thought up for the effort… B.F.A. – Bloody Fingers Association.

We collectively decided that proceeds of the sale will be turned over the city of Speyer for a charitable purpose; and each of us are posting the set for sale on various Net Resources, to include forums.

The set consists of the pipe, a matching tamper, a handcrafted box made of solid maple and a watercolor of pipe and tamper.

The set price is Euro 400.00 and can be purchased through HaJo Ziglowski, so if interested please contact HaJo Ziglowski: http://www.ziglpipes.de/

More pictures are included on Dirk’s Facebook page.

That's awesome James! I love the idea of "running pipes."

Why doesn't PMF do something like this? (Not volunteering, just commenting! )

It's been done, actually.

Some years ago a block made its way around as a gift for Kurt for hosting the forum.

Very cool pipe, except for the shoddy stem work. You need to have a talk with the guy who botched that up.

Very cool, James!
(if I had to try it here in Cape Town, I would have to run around the block myself to make it into a running pipe)
