The First entry, and the First pipe I ever made.. :D

Post by pzhan »

Hi Guys,
I am a beginner of pipe making. And this is the first post.
I just finished my first pipe a few days ago.
I'd love to share with you, and most importantly, please give me some pointers or advises.
Thanks.

Pretty good first pipe. The best advice I can give is make another pipe, and then another, and then another....... Repetition will correct some of the issues with this pipe.

Wow. That's a nice first.

I recommend bending the stem ever so slightly.

Nice first. My favorite view is the 2nd to last picture looking into the bowl. Keep at it! Looks like you'll be making some great shapes. Just curious, did you pick that particular shape and then go for it, or did it make it's way into your mind as you started carving?

i draw the shape first, and cut a mask out a peice of paper.

Wow, that's a great first pipe! You either lucked out, or you have an excellent natural eye for lines and reading grain. Lots of things could be improved, but these things are largely going to come with building skills. Fitting the shank and stem, taking more meat off nearly everywhere. A little bend to the stem. But if you make lots of pipes your skills and eye will develop. I hope you do make lots of pipes. I bet you could be a very good pipe maker.
