Inspired from Walle

Post by Taspiper »

I keep sneaking a peak at Walles site and find his pipes interesting in design and finish.
This has led me to do a little experimenting along those lines. I'm not sure if what I have ended up with is good, bad or just ugly but it was worth the experiment as I have learned a bit more along the way. Let me know your thoughts.

It would be the perfect pipe to smoke on March 17.

I like it.

It's good, bad, AND ugly!

I think the stem is bent too much... takes away the grace of the shank.

Yeah your probably right but I'd made it to hang from my teeth against my jaw, a sort of effortless clenching style which does work. I might try unbending a little and see if it still works.
Cheers Rolf.

I like it but for aesthetics sake I would like it more if the stem were a touch shorter and straight. Since it's customized to fit your needs the aesthetics of the stem length and bend are moot points. Nice job.

I'd like it more if it had a straight shank that tapered all the way to the bit, no rustication, perfect straight grain, a nice finish and maybe a stamp that read "DUNHILL 4103"... but that's just me. :)

Hope you enjoyed making it!

Sorry! I wasn't trying to be mean; I do hope he enjoyed making it. I'm assuming he's one of the crowd who make pipes because "it's fun!" and not because he wants to make a living out of it. I find nothing wrong with that at all, and thus my expressed hopes...

Thanks for the comments guys. I mainly make pipes for fun or just to see what I can come up with. It's nice to try and force the mind in to something creative. If I can make a few bucks on the way well and good.
I have an older Dunhill (54) which I purchased to see what all the fuss is about and yes it smokes ok but so do a lot of others :D
Cheers Rolf.

No, I thought you were mocking my comments that you quoted. I was just razzing anyway. I thought the "hope this helps" comment gave it away. Sometimes my quirky humor gets lost on internet forums. My mistake.
