Always wanted a green pipe...
Yeah. I'm green too. This is my third pipe waxed yesterday. I know the stem is too long but I sure enjoy the shape, color, and grain. This is my first attempt at contrast staining. What do you think? Feel free to comment. Thanks.

I think you better not drop that while you're walking around in the yard. Ya may not find it.
When I saw the subject line, I thought "this is gonna be ugly as hell". But I like it. That's a very nice 3rd pipe in my opinion, but then again, I've only made three pipes myself. So don't put too much weight on my opinion.

I like green pipes, mostly. I have a Peterson 'Racing Green' canadian, very cool. I like what you've done, the contrast looks good sir.
Re: Always wanted a green pipe...
I love the green and the contrast seems to be there. Taking photos of pipes with shiny finish is a pain in the ass. Reflections cover stuff and can make finishes look awful.
Cheers Rolf.

Re: Always wanted a green pipe...
Cutting grass and pipe smoking sounds dangerous for me. I'll try it anyway. Thanks for the comments. Always appreciate it. Could use any other critical comments you may have about the bowl and shank shape or anything else that looks wrong. One thought I had was to put some kind of treatment like carving or an inlay ring on the saddle to offset the lengthy stem.

Love the color. Very attractive.

St. Patrick's day is probably the best time to smoke a green pipe. This is the day I always wish I had one. Of course there are other times when you just feel lucky too. Thanks for all the comments.

The grain is really nice and I like the contrast finish. What's your finishing process. The green stayed a very nice vibrant green.

Re: Always wanted a green pipe...
Sanded the whole pipe to 600 grit. Sanded the stummel back to 320. Dyed with Fiebings black alcohol based dye diluted to dark grey. Sanded that down to the contrast with 400 then 600 then dyed again with kelly green diluted. Buffed with white diamond and then carnauba wax then buffed on empty wheel. I overbuffed the outside rim of the bowl so wiped off the wax with alcohol and applied green in that area and rewaxed and buffed.

Re: Always wanted a green pipe...
Believe it or not just got around to smoking something in this pipe. Breaking it in with McClelland Syrian Full Balkan. Nice smoke. Love the pipe. Sat out on my porch with a large can of Genessee Ale and the radio- listening to the news. After a hard days work... Aaaahhh....sublime.
