I like the shape Sean, and a nice blast, could've even been a bit deeper I think. Nice choice for color. My only thought, which is personal taste, would be a bit more curve to the stem. The graceful lines transfer into a straight shank and then on to a fairly straight stem. I think it might add to it if it had a slightly more curved stem. I'm a noob though, so grain of salt.

I really like the stain choice and the blast is pretty nice. The shape and overall form seems a bit undefined. The overall composition seems to have a lot of tension in the bowl shaping.

Not sure I follow. Are you talking about too much briar being shaped off? Not enough form or curve in the bowl? Thanks for your comments and and further clarification.

3rd time I'm looking at this pipe of yours and thought I must say my little "rookie" bit.
For me the shank/stem line from bowl to bit, doesn't flow. Meaning the curve (both top and bottom) is not gradual and a tad too abrubt. The bit seems too small as well, for my liking in any case. Also, the front and back wall thickness of the bowl doesn't seem to be the same. On the bowl shaping itself, I would have liked a bit more "fine-tweaking".
Love the blast. All in all, I would definitely be proud to own this pipe.

In general, the bowl has a bit of an amorphous look to it and, as Charl points out, some parts look too thick and others too thin giving it an amateur appearance. One thing I do like about all that is that it gives it an Old World feel. I can easily picture an old Irish mariner smoking this on the wharf in the 1700's.

Thanks for the explanation Wayne. I was actually going for the old world "clay pipe" look so at least I succeeded in that respect.

this pipe was my inspiration and the "look" I was going for, the simplistic feel and look.

At least there is one similarity: a hole on top that one can fill with tobacco.

I think your pipe dials right in if you knock the little bit of "chin" off the bottom of the bowl. Correct that bottom line and up the front of the bowl a little and your pipe sharpens right up. The "pro" pipe has a sharp rim, well defined, and slightly harder lines, but that stuff is not mandatory. Non-blobby is mandatory, but it's also very acheivable. The lines of your stem are excellent and the basic lines of the bowl are good. A couple small tweaks, just a little tightening up of the shape and you've got a hell of a nice pipe on your hands (or off them - even better!).
