Calabash'ish shape...

Post by JMG »

I hesitate to post this because my pictures are total crap and makes everything look really dull. However, this is the first pipe I have ever made that I am genuinely proud of. A lot of firsts for me on this one. First shank cap (this one is made of deer antler,) first military mount stem, first sandblast.

I know there's still a lot that can be better so I would really appreciate your critique/advice. Thanks guys.

I loved the way the bird's eye looked when it was first blasted...

Now that's cool. Great job!

IMHO I think the stem is a little long, but without having the pipe in my hands, I can't really point to any glaring issues. I like it!

I think the elongated stem makes it look elegant. I like the shape a lot. The shank cap is rounded with a bit too much of a radius I think, but otherwise, I think it's a good shape. Nice work.

John, you have a good reason to be proud of this one! i love it!
Reminds me of Stanwell's Anderson #2. Do you use a lathe or drill press, or..?

Yeah, I have a drill press and just recent acquired a wood lathe. Though this one wasn't turned on it.

Thanks for the compliments and critiques fellas.

Hmm, maybe the stem is a liittle too long and maybe the stem not entirely in line with the shank, but i like it! Well done!
