Canadian and billiard. And a couple other fat-boys.

Post by Sasquatch »

I was recently commissioned to cut a couple largish billiards - 5 1/2" long kind thing. I cut these pipes at totally separate times, and never had them in the shop at the same time at all. And the results in terms of overall proportion are pretty eery.

The billy:

I got a really sweet calabash out of an Italian block:

and a big fat ugly Sasquatch pipe to round things out

Sas, I really like the stem material on the black billiard. Where did you get it?

I think the Canadian is my favorite. It's good to see that you actually make pipes.

Geez. And here I thought you knew what you were doing. ;)

The billiard and the canadian kick ass, but my favorite is the canadian. That's the kind of pipe I would love to have in my collection.

Beautiful stuff, Todd!

Beautiful pipes Todd. I have a question though, can you still call it a Canadian if its a regular length ? I thought xtra long was a determining factor for the shape ?

I think it's the coyote rod from PME. If not then it's the similar green/grey/black cumberland stuff from exotic blanks.

I don't think the pipe has to be extra long. Its a Canadian because the shank is proportionately longer than a billiard's, and it's oval. Long shank + short stem = regular length. Now, some guys get carried away and make these super long variants just cuz, and that's great. This one was set in the block not so much to be incredibly long but to get perfect ring grain on the bowl.

Awwww man that Billy needs to be in my hands. It's my favorite. I didn't notice the stem pattern at first glance but when I did it kicked it up even more notches on the "I want" meter.
