GKCPC Carving contest- who's entering?

Post by The Smoking Yeti »

Just saw that the shape for the GKCPC carving contest was announced- dublin/belge/cutty family, which is great for me, cus' I've been meaning to play with that shape.

Who all is gonna enter this? I'm pretty excited to actually enter a PIPE competition- kinda a new thing for me :D

Cheers!

Billiard is a Dublin variant, right?

I actually have a block sitting here marked "GKCPC", but the best pipe it's going to produce is like, a giant, full bent Dublin thing, and I just don't have a clue if that's even going to be worth entering. Looks like a super block though.

I've been thinking about it, but haven't decided if I'm going to enter or not. I kinda get the feeling that if you're an aspiring American pipe carver it'd be foolish not to enter... so it's likely that I will. :P

I plan on entering just for the discipline

I have a block picked out and a design drawn up

I will lose, but in losing I will win :)

"but rev, isn't smoking a sin?"

well I suppose if one were to smoke to excess it would be a sin

"but what would be smoking to excess?"

Why smoking two pipes at once of course

I thought about it, but the competition was so steep last year, I'm not sure. But, then again, I'm in one of those moods lately that has me wondering if I should just sell my gear and get a motorcycle

Interesting. Belge & cutty I can see, but I would never consider the dublin shape to be related to the cutty. But what do I know?

I brought up the same thing on Smokers Forum in the Common Sewers section figuring I was missing something. Apparently there's a small contingent that thinks there's a loose association so the decided to be inclusive instead of exclusive. I don't see the connection either but oh well. The only issue I see is that it will be difficult to measure the pipes with each other if they are different shapes.

Which is kind of why I feel like sending in a XXXL Oom Paul Dublin - I find this range of shapes so ridiculously UNrelated that I have a tough time taking the thing seriously as "judgable". It's about as smart as linking an old clay cutty to a figural meerschaum... they're both basically made of mineral, after all.
