Litl Renba and a second Vampire Squid inspired pipe

Post by jogilli »

Good day all.. finished these up the other day, but finally got around to taking pictures..

The Litl Remba isn't anything special.. just a little travel pipe for me..

and I decided to remake the Vampire Squid from the PITH and change the design up a little

Hi James,

both of these are very nice work - congrats !
I love these shapes much.
Only point of critizism I'd like to add is, that, though I like cumberland stems a lot,
it might be slightly too much on these - especially on the second one, in combination
with that (really nice) application. IMHO plain black stems would've looked even better.

Nevertheless, really great work - carry on !

Regards, Jens

I'm diggin' your style of rustication on the first pipe. I would, however, like to see a profile pic of it. The vampire squid pipe I like a lot. I do agree with Jens, that a plain black ebonite stem would look better with it. Also, (and this may just be personal taste) but the stem seems to be just very slightly over bent...not much though. Either way, it's a very nice looking pipe. I was impressed with the original PITH as well.

Thanks.... the reason for the mouthpiece was to maintain the yellow/black (dark colors) throughout the squid..good point about the plain black mouthpiece, but the yellow/black swirl will remain.

JMG.. send me your email adress and I'l send you the other 3 pictures I made, but didn't post anywhere but my own hard drive.

The second one seems very busy
I find myself becoming dizzy
From bulbous shank to swirly stem
My head is really beginning to swim

I agree with Bruce about the busyness business (please forgive  ), but I also think personal taste and style is a factor, and otherwise, it's a great looking pipe, bowl, and overall form, I think.

Both pipes would be prized possessions on my pipe rack.

Keep 'em coming.

Freehand for me, nice pipes. I would probably agree about the black stem comments as there is a lot going on there.

thanks... I must be honest and say that a black mouthpiece would have added to it, but the new owner likes the swirl. I even offered to make a replacement black piece but he turned me down.
