Flamed and "Bird's Eye" correctly for the type of pipe, and good execution.

Hi Charl,
It is a beautiful grain that you placed very precisely into this freehand shape, but to my personal point of view the cheeks seem combined with the bamboo shank kind of heavy.

Best,
Abi

Beautiful pipe, but I'd have to agree with Abi. I think it would go a long way to balance the pipe if the cheeks were concave rather than convex. Also, I think the stem might look a little better if it were narrowed out a bit at the apex (not quite so abrupt towards the bit.) With all that said, however, this is still a very nice looking pipe and one I would be very happy with if I had made it. Nice job.

BTW...is that a bamboo extension? I'm guessing so, but it almost looks as if it is some sort of bone imprinted to look like bamboo. Either way, I like it a lot.

Thanks for the replies, appreciate it.
Looking at the photos again (I always seem to find even more faults), the top of the stem could have a bit more taken off. And I agree, the bowl does look a bit "heavy" for the bamboo. Should maybe have been a bit more "delicate" (for want of a better word!) to compliment the bamboo more.
