New tools • New pipes

Post by eder »

Hey guys,

Here are my newest pipes...
It just happened that I bought a metal lathe. It's a huge elephant, kind of 400lbs!

The Cutty pipe is BL - Before Lathe.
The other two, Quercus and Fiel are AL - After Lathe.
>> Thanks Chris for those amazing Morta blocks

Initially I thought that for whom never had touched a lathe, to work with it would be pretty complicated.
But it was damn easy. I can't tell you that I'm expending less time in a single pipe, but the things just get
more perfectly made with less sweating ;)

Eder, if those are the shapes coming off your lathe.... you set it up wrong!

The bottom 2 are great.... the top one I'm not sold on, seems to have kind of a funny arch to it.

The balance of shapes on the bamboo/morta is terrific, and the lines carried through on the Fiel are slick. I like!

As always, Eder, your work is amazing and now that you've gotten a lathe, I'm sure it will only get better. Your attention to detail is impressive and I really like the morta extension on Fiel, have never seen that before, a morta extension. Way to think outside the box. Nice work!

Amazing eye. I thought they were all perfect, but I think I see what you're saying, although the image is a little fuzzy, or is it my glasses?
(But, you missed something. He said the first one he made before he got the lathe)

Just amazing pipes, Eder, but listen to Sasquatch and you will get even better.

Thank you guys.
Let's see what comes out next then ;)

I have accumulated some experience on making things by hand.
So I knew exactly why I decided to buy the lathe for: to fix what I missed in several pipes and to get into a higher level.
Besides, I eventually get some nice pieces of briar and it's not fair to mess them up!
Some months back I took a trip to Mimmo (62mi from my place) and he told me two things... among many others :D
1\ Stop being stupid and buy a metal lathe!
2\ These blocks are hight grade. Don't mess them up!
Such words had some impact; not that I could see them before. But when someone else tells you, the things make much more sense.

Hey

I really like the first one, and the little oval shank look beautiful, and not easy to make.
