Pipe Chat now live!!

Post by KurtHuhn »

A few years later than originally intended, I've added chat functionality to the site. If you browse to the forums via the home page ( http://www.pipemakersforum.com ) you've already seen the annoying and blinky red notice. I'll make that go away soon. If you've bookmarked teh forum via the forum's first page, you can access the chat here:
http://www.pipemakersforum.com/pipechat

I will make minor enhancements to it over the next week or two, but it's perfectly live and usable now. The chat does accept typical IRC-style commands, and to change your nickname just type the command "/nick" (without the quotes) followed by your nickname.

Now the part where you can help out. I'm currently the only admin of the chatroom, and I can't be online all the time. If anyone would like to be an admin, just send me an email or a PM, and I'll add you to the list.

If Random and his ilk were still around, you'd have some really lively chat, I dare say!

Frank.

I started integrating the pipe chat so that there's a link within the forums, and so you could see who's in chat. Then I broke something.

The chat doesn't exactly work, but it's fully integrated with the forum. I'm going to look at it later, but for now I have to get to work in the workshop.

Is the asterisk after a member's name on the main page an indicator that they're in the chat?

Okay, here's the deal.

Chat works again. Messages get posted and can be read.

You need to be logged in to post.

Apparently it reads site admin info, so Tyler and I are the only admins.

I managed to get it to tell us how many folks are in chat, but not who is in chat. I might get that resolved tomorrow.

All software sucks. Just some sucks slightly less than others.

Whoops! Sorry, yes. This was a casualty of some upgrade or another. If I have some time over the next few days, I'll see if I can't rescue it.
