I'll go first.
I started this pipe a number of months ago with no intention of it being the contest pipe. As the contest rolled near and I still had nothing in mind that satisfied, this pipe made its way back to my attention and, after much contemplation, I decided to enter it.
We'll see.
BTW, I'm not done with the pipe yet. I still need to tweak the stem shape a little (it is too thick nearer the shank and through the bend), and I need to do a better job with the finish. I just got it to a point of "workable" so I could send in the photo.

Ok, you know I am a sucker for "bulldogs" of any kind. IMO you out did yourself on this one. It is great. Not much on "black" pipes but I really like this on.

Been thinking & palying around all day with this idea. Thanks for showing how it's done.

I updated my web page, and you can see my prototype as well as my contest entry there. Hope you enjoy, and feel free to let me know what you think. I had fun making both of them.
And of course, they are panels You can see them at the following link

Random, is that a one piece pipe with the ultem stem? Also, are you a science fiction fan of Roger Zelazney? My father reads a lot and I guess that author has a main character named Random in his books. I just thought maybe that is where you got your screen name.

My P&T entry
Well, here is a link to my pipe thanks to Neil Flancbaum of Smokin Holsters! I'm a novice at best. Thankfully, this is mostly a design contest.I don't have a lathe so I do most of the shaping with sanding discs on a drill press and with my dremel. I can see this in most any finish and I think it can be easily duplicated but stil has a little "panache" as it were. I'm sure its been done before. There isn't much new under the Sun.The stem/shank juncture has been a problem. I have a pimo mortise drilling thing but it seems to me that the wall thickness is too thin using it. Oh well.I just completed this pipe when the contest was announced so I left it unsmoked. It seems to have a nice clean draft (no whistle) and the bowl interior is nicely sanded and problem free. The air hole meets at the bottom of the bowl. I actually look forward to smoking it !
