I dry sand the stummel and stem starting with 220 up to 400, then I wipe everything down with a wet cotton ball and sand again with 400. Then I wipe everything down again with a wet cotton ball and sand with 600, then repeat but with a light sanding with 1500. Then I finish up with a very very light dry sanding with 0000 steel wool.
