All this talk of idea sharing & "mentors" got me thinking
I've been at this game awhile, and know some Cool Shop Shit (CSS) that can't be found elsewhere, both because repair work is a different animal than pipe making and because I had to find my own way. (Nobody showed me nuttin. )
What makes that potentially interesting is that I both live in Kansas City and am involved with the KC show that some of you will be attending this summer. (June 20 & 21).
The result of thinking about both those things together? I would feel like a dick if I didn't open my doors to Seekers of Alternate Tools & Methods For Making Pipes should you be inclined to scope some CSS while you're in KC.
Schedule-wise it would have to be before or after the show, and lodgings-wise it would require you to spend an extra night in a motel (I have zero guest space), but in all other respects would be a straightforward thing. I even live in a youth-oriented, semi-artsy/trendy neighborhood that has 50+ restaurants within three blocks of my front door.
How many could be accommodated? No idea. (I want to see if there's any interest at all, first)

George, you dumbass, there AREN'T any alternative tools or methods. Haven't you read this forum?

I'd jump at it if I were around. As it stands, I won't be...please try not to cry too much at my absence. On the flip side, I would like to extend an invitation to you next time you are in the South Pacific. I can show you all sorts of WJS (weird jungle shit.)

I'd be interested. Count me as a definite maybe.

Could I maybe crash in your bed, and you get a hotel ? I mean come on, I'm the one driving all the way.
I'm also a definite maybe.

You wanna come host a seminar in the UK? There would be a huge audience of ummm well me for one:D
Re: All this talk of idea sharing & "mentors" got me thinkin
+1 for the UK seminar. Audience size doubled just like that. See how popular you'd be?!
We can't actually pay you, or cover your flights, but it's lovely over here. Come and do a seminar and see if you don't believe me.

I'd love to come as well, but the last two years I've filled up my suburban with guys from the OKC club, and we've made a road trip of it. I hope that happens again this year, so that knocks me out. If I fail to fill up my car, I'm in.

I, for one, cannot be bothered to drive 6 miles across town to hang out with some dudes that I really don't like anyway. So, count me in!
Am I Calamity Jane or Annie Oakley??...depends on the day.

If there's any way I can finagle an extra day of work, I'll be there.

Sas -- That's a very civic-minded Canadian view for a subversive, independent, seven-foot-tall badass.
JMG -- You have no idea how much seeing WJS appeals to me. I managed to cover some cool ground in my day, but never that, and regret it.
Ocelot -- Done
Alden -- Yeah, I'm insensitive. Sue me.
Chris & Oakbear -- Were I younger and etc., I would definitely spend a year or two traveling around off-the-beaten-path England. No question about it. Thanks for the thought.
Tyler -- 10-4 on you usually carrying a busload of guys. If for some reason that doesn't happen this year, consider yourself on the list for sure.
Scottie --
Fiddlestix -- Very cool. I'd love to have a shot at corrupting the mind of a talented newbie.

Re: All this talk of idea sharing & "mentors" got me thinkin
Something I realized this afternoon when mentally planning all this, and want to pass on:
The KC Show's kick-off event is a VIP reception / club meeting that's always held the evening before the show itself. Meaning any shop get-together at my place on Thursday, June 18th would have to wrap up around 4:00 pm. (you'd definitely be welcome to attend the VIP event, though, so your evening wouldn't have to be spent watching TV in your motel room.)
The Monday after the show---June 22---has no time constraints.
