PITH 2015
If you would like to participate, just post in this thread that you are in and I'll add you to the list.
Time for PITH 2015!
Deadline is July 31, 2015
Shape is Bamboo shank sitter, can't be a poker.
Here are the rules for the less experienced people, or those who have not been around that long. The pipe in the hat(PITH) trade is something we do here about once a year. We choose a shape that participants have to make, and set a deadline. Once the deadline hits, we randomly generate a list of all participants, and you send your pipe to the person below you on the list. You receive the pipe from the person above you. Upon receiving your pipe, you inspect it, smoke it, and give an honest and thorough critique back to the maker. The pipe is yours to keep.
The pipe in the hat trade is designed as a tool to help you grow in your pipe making skills. It can certainly be intimidating to jump into something like this with all these more experienced people participating, but getting the type of feedback that comes with putting your pipe in the hands of someone else is much more beneficial than posting pictures. Plus you get a pipe out of it. Some of the shape requirements might seem like a big challenge, but the PITH is designed to force you out of your comfort zone and to help you get some experience in the art/craft of pipe making. The idea here is that the best way to grow is by challenging yourself. So if you're on the fence about joining, don't be shy. This is a great way to get some good practice and helpful feedback.
Here's our list so far:

Scottie will tell you that he who broaches the subject first has to set it up and answer all the tons of questions.

Re: PITH?
Crap! Ok, I don't mind running this thing. The only problem is that due to my job(military), there are times when I might go a few days at a time without internet access, so that could slow things down a bit. But if everyone is fine with that, I have no problem doing it, unless someone else WANTS to do it.

Re: PITH?
There are a few shapes or features that I haven't done that I'm itching to do. Brandy, Oom Paul(I know it's already been done), cutty, or anything with a saddle. These are just my own suggestions based on things I know would challenge me. Let's hear what everyone else has to say. What suggestions do y'all have?

...also, give a yay or nay if you plan to participate so we can get a list going. I'll be first. I'm in!
Re: PITH?
I'm in, as long as it doesn't conflict with the Chicago show. Perhaps a due date after then?

Re: PITH?
I have no objections to a later due date. How about end of June? We could even push it back farther if need be. Will anybody need longer than June? If so, just speak up. The more input I get, the better I can coordinate this thing in a way that will benefit everyone.

Re: PITH 2015
I'm in and good with the end of June. As far as shapes go, maybe try a 1/2 bent or more as the last two were straighter shapes generally.
Or a sitter.
Or bamboo shank.
Hell, I don't know.

Re: PITH 2015
Let's push it further back. The KC show carving contest is in June and I will be devoting a bunch of my time between now and then to that pipe.
Am I Calamity Jane or Annie Oakley??...depends on the day.

End of July works for me. I'm in. I picked the last shape, so I'll let someone else do this one.

Re: PITH 2015
If its the end of july im in. I like the sitter suggestion. Maybe with bamboo or other extension. Turn in a 3" poker and you will be banished from the relm of PMF. Lol
