Very nice pipes.
I especially like the blue one.
It reminds me of Cornelius' work.
Great job :D

Perhaps it would be timely to remind folks that these bits are the only way to shape first and drill second. I'll be getting a set for sure Brad.

Hi Josh,
Those mistakes will happen. I think you just have to push on. I like the first pipe and I like the "idea" of the second.
Keep going Man.

stain

Nick,
The dulling down has more to do w/sanding than the type of stains used, I believe.
Too much sanding will make it grey instead of black in the soft areas. HTH

Nick

Thanx. Yes,Becker is my favorite Italian pipemaker.
The first stain is oil black followed by sanding and then light tan stain.

Thanx, the shank cap is Cocobolo. Bowl is in shadow, not stained.
I really like the stem where it is though it could've worked OK centered too.

sanding/shaping

Hi Wilbur, Most serious pipemakers start shaping a block with 36 grit discs. As for a lathe, a metal lathe is most often reccommended. Jet 9x12 metal lathes are in common use.
