Teipen Bent Billiard
Teipen Bent Billiard
I haven't posted anything in the gallery for a good while so I thought I'd post this one for critique. It's the largest pipe I've made to date. The overall length is 5.98" and the bowl height is 2.3". The chamber depth is 1.9" and the chamber diameter is 15/16". It feels light at 68 g for its size. The shank ring is birdseye maple. Critiques welcome and encouraged.

It looks like there's a bulge on the bottom of the stem as it goes towards the shank. I presume that's by design, but I don't understand it.
I really like this pipe, and you can't tell its size from the pictures. I've heard that's a good thing.

I see what you're talking about. Looks like a hair more needs taken off to get rid of that bulge. Good eye.sandahlpipe wrote:It looks like there's a bulge on the bottom of the stem as it goes towards the shank. I presume that's by design, but I don't understand it.

I always take that last little bit off after I have bent the stem. It makes it easier for me to see.
Love the blast

Me too. If necessary I go back and remove material with a round file if I'm way off. I suspect that the "bulge" is actually caused by too much material taken off rather than not enough. I did some sanding on the shank ring with the stem in place and I think it cause the stem to tuck there where it meets the shank ring. It's slight enough that I can fix it on the red tripoli wheel.scotties22 wrote:I always take that last little bit off after I have bent the stem.

Yeah, I've never done a bent with a shank ring before so I can see how it got in the way. Something to keep in mind if I ever decide to try onewdteipen wrote:Me too. Ideally, you shouldn't have to do any work to the shank ring after gluing it to the shank but I missed a couple of small spots of tearout that I didn't notice until they filled with red tripoli.

Cool stuff Wayne! You know, except what's wrong with it
