Flannel wheel frays

Okay, in using the PIMO flannel wheel for final buff, I get a shop full of strings along with a decent polish. The wheel seems to be shedding heavier than a cocker spaniel in the summer.

Any hints on how to stop the shedding? I have not trimmed the loose threads. Do I need to do that? At the rate this thing is shedding, I won't have any wheel left in two weeks. Any ideas? Has anyone else found this to happen?

It will eventually stop shedding. It just needs to work out the loose threads. Some buffing wheels do this, while thers don't. The wheels I get from Delvies don't seem to shed at all.

Hi Kurt,

Can You provide a link? Next time I have to get buffs, I would definitely like some that don't shed!

I get ones off the shelf at Lowes, they shed for maybe 1/2 a buffing at that's it. But as Tyler said somewhere else in another post, these are just low grade, nothing special wheels.

Rad, www.delvies.com

My delvies shed some, but not nearly as much as the pimo wheels. I just got an Eastwood catalogue, and they have what appear to be single sewn flannel wheels. Never tried them.

It's also the same place I get all of my acrylic needs.
