Rather than having to untie then tighten and tie could you not use a form of the "Spanish Windlass" to make your job easier?

I probably could have. I am far enough into it now that they are as bent as they are going to get and I am just supporting the weight of the gourds.
Am I Calamity Jane or Annie Oakley??...depends on the day.
