My first attempt at Pipemaking

Post by J.Alexander »

This is my first attempt at pipemaking. After doing this one I almost feel that I enjoy making the stem just as much as the freehand stummel.

I would gladly like to hear your honest opinions (the ones Tyler warned about). I am totally new to this but, I believe in always striving to get better at whatever we do. If its worth doing its worth doing right. Thanks in Advance! ~ Joe

My honest opinion is that this shape is hard to critique. With freehands, it's nearly impossible to distinguish errors from features. I can only say that the stem looks short and stubby in proportion to the stummel. Try making a classic shape and you'll get much more helpful critique.

You made a first pipe. It's not bad and it's not good. It looks strikingly like....a first pipe. Make more.

I think it's fantastic and I'd be proud to own it.

Not bad at all for number one. As soon as you make a more classic shape you will get a lot more shaping input. You did a great job on the stain and polish.
