Activated Charcoal?
Activated Charcoal?
Where are you guys finding it? I've been to Walmart, CVS, Walgreen's and Osco. The closest I got was a pharmacist that wanted to order me 8 oz of powder for $35! A good price, I guess, but jeez, that's a lot of powder.

I'm not quite sure, if it's the same, but »Aktivkohle« (certainly means activated Charcoal) is used for filtering the water of aquariums. So a pet shop might be worth a try. It is mostly sold in form of small pellets there, which should be easy to grind. They also have different qualities. Maybe there are some addititves is the higher qualities to improve the water in an aquarium. Read the label.
I remember all this from my father, who had an aquarium for a long time, and always bought some cheap activated charcoal without any »extras«.
Please correct me, if there is a difference between the materials, but I don't believe to buy pharmacy quality.

Scott, I got mine at walmart... I cleaned them out (1 4 oz. bottle in powder form). They were perplexed at what they were looking for so I had to describeu it to them as "stuff you take if you swollowed poison or something." It helped them know what I was looking for AND they went and got it REAL FAST

Already been mentioned, but I'll reiterate that health food stores are a good choice. It is in capsule form, and as Rad said, you just open them as needed. This type is for human consumption, and quite safe. I'd be hesitant to use the stuff available from the pet store.
I remember a link posted on ASP (by Jeff Folloder?) a year or two back for an online source. It was NOT in capsule form, but was pharmacutical grade. It was a bunch of the stuff for a decent price. I'd google the ASP archives for it if I was needing any.

I buy capsules used to curb flatulence from Osco Drug. The store just a stones throw from my house has it. I can bring some to a club meeting if you like Scott.
Otherwise, if you are going to be at the Ft. Wayne show this Sat. I can bring some there too.

This is not the same brand I use but you can get a 100 ct. bottle of the capsules here: http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/products/spe ... 9_100.html

Think I will check into ordering it, but will probably try another CVS for capsules for this first time around. Last night I finished the forging of the 4th war club and it is nearly complete save some stem tweaking. I'd like to get the bowl coated before the weekend. Kirk, you going to be in Fort Wayne this Saturday?

I know it's from a book store, but the description seems right on.
