I think the shank and stem are too chubby for the bamboo. Bamboo is challenging to work with. It looks like you did a good job with the bamboo itself, though. It looks like there's a small gap between stem and bamboo.

Keep up the good work!

That's not a bad bamboo pipe, Harry. Your transitions from bamboo to stem and briar lack flow (the lines of the bamboo aren't being followed) and there's a touch of a gap between bamboo and stem. The shaping on the bowl is a little wonky but the stem is nice and so is your finish.

Overall, not a bad little bamboo poker. :)

I thought about mimicking the shape of the bamboo before and after the bamboo itself, but decided against it, I probably should have done it!

Do it on the next one for sure. It makes the bamboo feel more like it's a part of the composition as a whole.

On your next one, also leave a little more bamboo after the knuckles. That will help your composition as well. You can also try a stem that has a flare to repeat the knuckle theme.

This will also make the bamboo a lot easier to work with.

There is something about the over all composition that I actually like. It has a very dark age feel to it. I see the same things that everyone else has pointed out, but I like the slight curve of the bamboo and the way the the stem flows out like a hawks beak. I also like the domed rim and the rustication into the ring between the bamboo and briar shank. That rustication is killer! What are you using to do your rustication?

You did a nice job. I tend to hate bamboo, but folks keep asking for it.When I open a pkg. of bamboo, I get nervous.
