anyone know for sure what it looks like?

It's a 30-50 ft tall shrub-tree whose "trunk" grows out in a cluster. It extends pretty much straight up without a lot of horizontal spreading. They grow in clusters sort of like Ash trees.

Are you re-designing it because the drafthole on the pipe in the T-shirt comes out the top of the shank?

Well how many frickin erica arborea are there?

The wood blocks that pipes are made of are cut from the burl of the briar bush, scientific name Erica arborea, which is part of the Heath family. These bushes are generally under 10 feet high and the burl grows at ground level, the trunk of the bush growing up and the roots growing down.

Ben,

Most of my info and knowledge comes from personal correspondence with Mimmo and from an hour long pictoral presentation that he did in Chicago 2 yrs. ago. The pictures in your post look nothing like anything that Mimmo showed, but it's possible they're just very underdeveloped specimens I suppose. If you'll be in Chicago, you can put these and any other questions directly to Mimmo.

I might do that, good idea. I wonder what the difference is... maybe mimmo is really letting them grow up a lot more. Which is interesting in itself.
