bulldog shank/stem
bulldog shank/stem
I would appreciate any advice on this. Should the diamond pattern on a bulldog shank end at the saddle with the saddle being 90 degrees to the rest of the stem, or should the saddle taper to the stem? If You do a taper stem is it best to carry the lines from the top and bottom of the diamond to the outer edges of the button? What would be considered the most " classic " way of making the stem. I would appreciate any advice and will not post pictures until I am sure I have done all I can to get the proper shape and then ask for advice. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Norm.

HI Norm,
What I would do is Google images of bulldogs with saddle stems and taper stems. This will give you a really good idea of what they should look like.

Yup, find a picture and see if you can make it happen. It's actually not as hard to do as you'd think to get it basically right, the hard part is making it symmetric.
