Morning Commute

Post by Sasquatch »

My commute to the shop was hampered by a little snow this morning. That's a 5-yard garbage bin to the right. That drift is about 5 feet high.

That's only knee deep for a Sasquatch. I don't see the problem.

We don't have that stuff in florida, and if we did I would move to a foreign country, like Miami.

I think your snow drift has a snow drift. You have problems. Supposed to get down to 4 deg F here in the next couple days with no snow cover. Things are gonna start breaking.

The big roll off construction dumpsters are measured in yards. Filled up my fare share of those.

I generate garbage almost every day, and doing drywall repairs, ceiling texture, trim carpentry, whatever in a residential setting often means I have a truck full of waste at the end of the day. Homeowner doesn't want it and lacks the resources to dispose of it, so I keep a bin in my driveway.

The bin dates to 1966 so it's pre-metrication.

Construction has made a half-ass attempt to metricicize, but no one speaks of 19mm plywood, it's 3/4". Likewise it comes in 4x8 sheets.

Some cabinet makers use metric a lot and when you are dealing with things 2 feet and under it's actually much easier and more useful, and far fewer measuring errors occur.

Milk comes in liters, so does gas, but beer still comes as a pint. Paint comes as a gallon but they call it 3.78 L which is pretty gay.

Dirt comes in yards, but even if it came in meters no one would know because a pile of dirt is hard to measure.

Down here we have very considerate snow. It falls to nice festive distance then evaporates before it hits the ground.

Or it turn to ice and the north half of the state of Texas shuts down for the day, looks like we are in for it this coming weekend,
