Making Pipes From Fraised Stummels

Post by wdteipen »

I recently completed a club pipe for http://www.christianpipesmokers.net. They didn't want to spend a lot of money so we opted on fraised stummels to cut down on labor. I decided to make a "Making Of" video to go along with it that I thought some of you might find mildly interesting or helpful. It was a learning experience for me so I know there are some things that I could have done differently or better. I also forgot to get video of some of the steps. I kept track of time spent and figured it took me between 3 and 4 hours per pipe. Anyway, here's the links:

Killer acoustic rendition of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" toward the end of part 1. Who was that?

Thank you very much for sharing. A very nice looking pipe.

Even with the fraised stummel it was not a cake walk. Skill and experience seem key.

That's Andy McKee. The original video was one full video with music credits at the end. I had to split it in half for YouTube to accept it and didn't make separate credits for the first part.

I'm very impressed, Wayne. I'm sure that project was immensely satisfying when you got everything done. The question is, would you be crazy enough to do it again!

Wayne this is a really cool process video- part of me wishes I had a chance to spend a few years in a pipe factory to see how they go about things. I suppose a fraised POY project would be the next best thing.

Thanks for doing this, Wayne! It's always cool to see how other guys work, even with factory turned stummels.

Wayne, great video! And of course, the pipes look really good too. Thanks for taking the time to put it all together. I learned bunches watching it through once. I will have to watch it a few more times to pick up even more that I missed. This is a great tutorial.

Great videos sir!
You surely have to love your work judging by the amount of pipes you had line up.
Just beautiful
