Good morning/afternoon/evening chaps!

Since I'm new to pipe smoking I've been wondering how to best go about discovering what types of tobacco I enjoy most out of the sea of choice that's available online. So far I've bought one type online; Robert Lewis' Orcilla Mixture and 3 types of loose tobacco from my only 'local' tobacconist which are Peaches & Cream, Favorite (coconut) and American Delight.
Now, having been looking through past threads on this topic it's obvious through the general theme of advice as well as common sense that the keyword is 'try'. Try lots of different types and eventually you'll figure it out. That'll obviously work, however, I'd rather do things a bit more efficiently. I was wondering if there's anyone kind enough to help me narrow it down using their experience and knowledge of the taste categories found in tobacco.

If you use the following link to a UK smoking shop, would you be able to pick out maybe 5-10 different sample-sized tobaccos for me to buy? Once received I could give 'em all a try and report back on what I liked most and least.

I'd suggest trying a VaPer blend, Aromatic blend, Burley blend, English blend, Oriental blend, Balkan blend, Virginia blend, etc... one of each. See what you like. Then read about what tobaccos are in those blends (something like this might be a good start http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Types_of_tobacco) and then tell us what you liked and ask for suggestions on blends that are similar. Or try this conversation to see what other people are smoking and enjoy.

Thanks for the response. The most helpful part was just having an idea of what categories I'm supposed to be looking at. So I've managed to pick out a tobacco for almost all the ones you mentioned, however I'm still confused between a couple of them. This is what I have so far:

I'm unsure about the Burley choice since I can't tell which one is likely to give me a good idea of a proper Burley tobacco. Any recommendations on this one? If it's one I can get as a sample from that website then that would be ideal.

I don't think I've ever had a burley, but when I think about burley I think Half and Half. Sounds like folks either love it or hate it.

Check out C&D tobaccos on tobaccoreviews.com. Look for ones with a lot of reviews. They have a large selection of burley tobacco. Peretti is also famous for burley. You can find them on-line.

5 Brothers is the purest burley IMO but you probably won't like it. Hydrate it a bit if you buy some... it improves significantly.
