Back to my Roots!

Post by WCannoy »

This has been a pretty popular style for me since I made my first "wax drip" pipe about 12 years ago. Whenever I decide to make one of these, it's only because I have forgotten how painfully difficult and tedious the last one was to make!

Who is Paul?

I don't know if anyone was making drip pipes that looked like this before I did, but I can honestly say that I didn't copy this from anyone else. My drip style was inspired by Castello's candle wax carving:

I just decided to run with it.

Really good Walt - a little more sanding and you'll have a nice bent billiard there.

Well, according to his bio on smokingpipes.com, Paul started carving pipes in 2004. By then, I already had more than a few of my wax drip pipes in circulation. So...

Did I invent the style? I dunno, but I didn't copy anyone else.

Did I make wax drip pipes before Paul? I think so, by virtue of the time line.

Did Paul copy copy it from me or someone else? Well, I guess that would be a question for him. It's entirely possible that he came up with the same idea without having seen it before, and therefore 'also' invented it, kinda. Great minds think alike, you know! :D

At the end of the day, I don't know that it matters too much who 'invented' it. I guess that anyone who can pull it off, copied or not, deserves credit for a job well done!

ahhh i see. well, you both make a killer wax drip. i think i like the subtle suede blast rather than a normal ring grain blast tho.
art at its finest nonetheless.

Dude, I can only imagine how much time went into finishing a design like this. Looks fantastic!

well I suppose if one were to smoke to excess it would be a sin

"but what would be smoking to excess?"

Why smoking two pipes at once of course

Damn Walt. Damn. You got way too much time on your hands. And I have way too little of that pipe in mine.

Freaking amazing.
