Re: Vulcanite smell
I believe what you're looking for is the "stinky ebonite thread." It should provide you with all the information you could possibly want, and then some.LathamPipes wrote:How do I get rid of that sulfur smell from a new stem????

Re: Vulcanite smell
Of all the other threads on this forum, that's the one I learned the most from.
Vulcanite smell
That's a thread for the ages. It's like a pipe making lesson given by Monty Python's Flying Circus.
Re: Vulcanite smell
If I wasn't before I am now a Todd Johnson groupie, that thread was classic

well I suppose if one were to smoke to excess it would be a sin

Why smoking two pipes at once of course

I can't believe I read the whole thing
Re: Vulcanite smell
It's a disaster that you just can't look away from. I reread it yesterday and can't help but wonder if that was or at least nearly was the breaking point for a few carvers who were still around the boards then but who haven't been around for some time.BigCasino wrote:I can't believe I read the whole thing

I am glad that M has moved on to selling such amazing pipes for up to 15,000 dollars, who would have though we were in the presence of such greatness

If I may, "offering" would be a more fitting word than "selling" here.the rev wrote:I am glad that M has moved on to selling such amazing pipes for up to 15,000 dollars, who would have though we were in the presence of such greatness

I believe the official definition of the word selling is "to sell or attempt to sell something"e Markle wrote:If I may, "offering" would be a more fitting word than "selling" here.the rev wrote:I am glad that M has moved on to selling such amazing pipes for up to 15,000 dollars, who would have though we were in the presence of such greatness

IMO there is a difference between Valuable art that the value is based on the desire of the connoisseur to own said art ( example van Goh, Dhali)
and the value put on art by the artist who thinks he is worthy of a van Goh price
and the value put on art by the artist who thinks he is worthy of a van Goh price

I'm not trying to be (more) contentious (than usual), but for the sake of clarity, please read this. I humbly submit to you that neither 2 nor 3 hold.the rev wrote:I believe the official definition of the word selling is "to sell or attempt to sell something"e Markle wrote:If I may, "offering" would be a more fitting word than "selling" here.the rev wrote:I am glad that M has moved on to selling such amazing pipes for up to 15,000 dollars, who would have though we were in the presence of such greatness

Regardless, I protest both the implication and the possibility that someone (to borrow a Bush-ism) mis-understand-ifies you.
Re: Vulcanite smell
Well, I hate to point out the slight brain trauma you have incurred by the constant barrage of Sas' behemoth sized pipes upon your skull, but in the link you presented it does in fact say that selling is "trying to sell". And I would point out that it is commonly understood that people selling a product have no promise that they will succeed in said sale. For instance, Ernie went to the pipe show to sell his pipes. And though he was selling his poor little heart out, he did not in fact make one sale. (please note this was a fictional story, any resemblance to real life characters or events was merely accidental)e Markle wrote:I'm not trying to be (more) contentious (than usual), but for the sake of clarity, please read this. Re: Vulcanite smell
Holy Shit!!!! That only took me two days to read.......
And we are totally talking "potato, potato" (I'll let you figure that one out) on the "selling" issue. Same thing, just a different word to describe what's going on.
I think we've had a bit of the caustic nature of that thread jump into you boys. Or is it nap time??
