I've done it now....shop safety is important!!

Post by scotties22 »

So I was cutting the bottom off of a block so it would fit in the chuck on my lathe. I got a little carried away using the band saw and thought...ya know, for shits and giggles...that I would throw my finger in front of the damned blade just to see what happens. I am lucky, that's really all I can say. I didn't quite get down to the bone across the knuckle and the cut is just deep enough on my finger to lay it open a bit. But, don't worry boys......no trip to the ER for me. A little bit of alcohol (in the wound, not down my gullet...asshole...and yes, I'm talking to you Rev) some super glue and new skin over the top for good measure and I am back in fighting form.

The best part is my husband is completely oblivious to my shenanigans so I still have shop access  . Trust me, if he were to find out he would cut me off until after the baby is born. That would really suck for me as I've been back in the shop for abour 2 weeks again.

I didn't pull the cut back open ( I finally got it to stop bleeding and didn't want to risk it springing a leak)...but I promise it's not just a scratch.

So, just a reminder...pay attention to what you are doing. I was totally concentrating on what I was doing and still don't know how the fuck this happened :banghead:

You can't even cut your fingers off properly?

You see this is one of the big differences between men and women, us blokes would have stood there for a moment, finished trimming the block and then used a plaster/band aid whatever and carried on.

Seriously though it is so easy to do if you don't concentrate, I keep a good little first aid kit in the shop and have 100ml bottles of eyewash all over the place (they were free).

Does super glue sting?

Scottie first off I am sorry you cut yourself

Second, we used superglue all the time for cuts when I was fighting

third, alcohol on the wound, then down your gullet, the baby might as well learn to get her swerve on now

well I suppose if one were to smoke to excess it would be a sin

"but what would be smoking to excess?"

Why smoking two pipes at once of course

Yeah, super glue stings...but not really any more than new skin (I think it's alchohol based). If I hadn't been done trimming the block I would have finished before I tended to my wound

Super glue and eletrical tape are never too far away when I am working. I'm a clutz and catastrophe follows me like my shadow. I've fashioned many a bandage out of eletrical tape in my day.

I figured I really don't do anything else properly, so why start with cutting off my finger?

My whole arm hurts this morning. I think I about jerked it out of socket when I yanked my arm (all be it a few mm too late) out of the way.

Be watching REAL close for any signs of streaking upwards from that cut. Blood poisoning/infection is a serious, serious drag.

Yup, sure will. I just pulled the bandage off and cleaned it up really good. Good thing I had a tetanus shot about 2 years ago.
