A sanding set up RFI

Post by MikeStanley »

Hi All; I posted this in tools and was suuggested that might not be the place so I'll put it here too.
I see this kind of set up in every workshop but my own. What the heck should I look for to put together such a sanding set up? I have a motor. A Craftsman 5/8" spindle, threaded dual sided grinding wheel actually. I just can't quite figure out the rest. It appears to me that the sand paper is going over a sort of bowl shaped padding and is held in place by a backing plate. The whole thing being threaded into the motor spindle.
I'm speaking of the top right image.

Here is a link to one such set up.

Hi Mike,

That looks like a french wheel, and if you find where to get them, let me know.

I think you pretty much have to have them made at a machine shop, and they are pretty expensive.

Contact Tim West. His father-in-law makes them and he sells them at shows. I don't use one, but have seen them at his table on numerous occasions at shows. Hope that's helpful.

Best,
