I've got an old metal Stihl that would be a bitch on shipping, but (in whiny voice) I want some more Algerian! Maybe I could get it up there somehow... I think it is a WB 028.

What would I get for that??? :D

I'll be at the Newark pipe show in New Jersey on March 9th if anyone wants to come hand pick blocks.

It'll be nice to finally meet some customers I've been dealing with for years, would be nice to see some forum folks there too!!!

The ebauchons are going quickly since there was a limited amount of them in this batch (none in the last batch), so if you want any, grab 'em soon, I'll keep the price list updated as sizes sell out.

If anyone who has ordered feels like leaving a review of the briar here, feel free. Or even better, pics of your finished work made from this briar.

I ordered some of this Algerian briar from Vermont Freehand.

Ordered 8 medium Ebauchons - Grade 1 and 8 large Ebauchons - Grade 1

They look excellent in my opinion.

I am very happy with the blocks and Vermont Freehand was great to deal with.
He responded to my PM questions quickly and shipped even faster.

Here are a few pictures.
The pictures don't really show it, but these blocks are a very nice size.
I dampened the blocks to show the grain.

Thanks for the blocks Vermont.

I have a large collection of high dollar Japanese tools I might tap into if you were interested.
You want the best, how about a $800 chisel :fencing:

Steve and I recently spent an evening swapping biar and rod stock for mandolins and fiddles. Pretty much Christmas on my end, and I never was one for holidays. Steve's a great guy and a pleasure to barter with.

Hi all...
I know that I once said I would never again deal with Yazid...was purty adamant at the time...but times, and circumstances, change. After a few PMs and a long phone conversation with Steve, I placed a small order for some of his grade 2 block. In a word, beautiful. It only arrived yesterday afternoon, but what I've cleaned up has some great potential...and it's Algerian! I love the look and feel of this stuff.

In our talk, I mentioned that I liked to play with "unusual" and "challenging" blocks. Steve tossed in one of the most twisted gnarly pieces I've seen in a long time. This will take some thinking and fidgeting, but I'm seeing something ala Micoli or Wallenstein...should be fun!

Thanks Steve! I'll be back for more. Pics to follow.

ty t-bear!

here's some pics of how well the Algerian briar takes a blast.
This was obviously not done by me, and is obviously done by you know who.
He says it takes a shorter time to blast Algerian compared to Italian.

"but rev, isn't smoking a sin?"

well I suppose if one were to smoke to excess it would be a sin

"but what would be smoking to excess?"

Why smoking two pipes at once of course

Thanks, John! I still have a few finishing touches to put on it before i call it done. It's been on the backburner since I only need like 20 mins to finish it up.
