Have this pipe I am carving now, the grains on both sides are beautiful birdseye but one side is so, so light that you can barely see them. Will these pop when I put the stain on? Or is there something I need to do to get the grain to pop on the light side?

If you can barely see the grain when it is wet, I would call it a bald spot, and either blast or carve it.
