starting a 1/4 bent brandy

I am just starting to carve it, any advice about the shape? Any specific thing to look for in critiquing it? I kinda like the more chubby kind that looks almost like a cognac glass is that considered ok?

A squat brandy will get you into apple territory, just FYI. But as long as you don't fuck it up, that sounds great!
I usually fuck it up, so you'd be in good company, IMO.

well I am an idiot... of course brandy and cognac are the same thing. This is the shape I am thinking of

That's a nice looking red wine glass, there Rev....
Just make sure you keep things kinds curvy. I did a brandy a while back and started chasing flaws and ended up with something else completely. Just keep that shape in mind and right now I would not worry about flaws. Just concentrate on shaping and see where it takes you. By no means am I am expert, but right now flaws in the wood are the least of my concerns. I make what I plan on making and the flaws are what they are.

yeah I did that with the blowfish, though it hurt my soul to rusticate it. Btw I would appreciate some feedback before I stain that beeyotch

Don't rusticate them. Just leave the pits and stain em as normal. Its a piece of wood....nature is gonna do to it what she wants. Flaws ain't no big deal unless its a huge fissure or something like that. A little crack or sand pits I would just leave. You can worry about that once you have your process in place and you are comfortable with the shapes you are making.
