2012 Pipe In the Hat Trade

Post by The Smoking Yeti »

Hey folks, it looks like PITH 2012 is underway!

First, a note: You do NOT have to be an experienced pipe-maker to join this, all skill levels are totally welcome here, this is a chance to have some fun!

Basically it goes as follows, we all make a pipe, and post a picture of our entry. Then, all the entrants names are thrown in a hat, and pulled randomly to form a list. The list is then posted. You send the pipe to the guy below you. Make the arrangements through the private messaging system, or mail, if you still like to write letters. The drawing will take place on February 3rd.

The pipe theme for this year is the Cavalier. You do not have to follow a classic template curve for curve, you can have some fun with this whilst maintaining the essence of the Cavalier family. (the airway extending below the bowl with a removable cap etc)

Any additional information I should add? Let me know.

A list of current contestants is as follows: (and is flexible until we do the drawing on February 3rd)

Woooot!

PITH time!

Might I suggest the bent billiard, or if that is not challenging enough, perhaps the cavalier.

I missed the last one due to a new baby and deployments. I've got the next few months with nothing going on so I am definitely in for this one!

Pipe in the hat 2012?

Post by mredmond »

Could we set the completion date for sometime in February, if that's cool with everybody? I have a seven pipe groomsmen set due early - mid January, and that's going to use up most of my available pipe making time until January.

I'm cool with any theme, I'll attempt to move my skills forward whatever it is.

I vote cavalier but whatever it is I am in

Rev
"but rev, isn't smoking a sin?"

well I suppose if one were to smoke to excess it would be a sin

"but what would be smoking to excess?"

Why smoking two pipes at once of course

Had to opt out last year, and I might have to opt out again this year depending on planning and resources (which are at an all time low at my place :( )

If I can find the time I'll definitely join though!

Cavalier sounds like a fun challenge. Would we want it to be a personal interpretation of a cavalier or would we want to aim as closely as possible to la original, which, correct me if I'm wrong, is this:

Ok, I'll do a cavalier....but seriously, vestigial arm for a shank ?? That would rock. I'm just saying.

If we go with an open interpretation, you could always make the extra bit beneath the bowl a vestigial arm. ;)

I would love to see an open interpretation, that way we can get all crazy with it and shizzle

I agree. Make it open to interpretation. If Walle gets in on this one I'd love to see what he comes up with!

I'm in again. Little crazy around here, but I'll find some time to make one.

So it looks like we all like the cavalier idea :P

I'm no great shakes at organizing these things. would anyone else care to start an official thread for it?

Maybe Kurt or Tyler can make this a sticky.

For now lets just try to get a handle on who would like to participate. Suggested deadline (since I don't remember seeing another mention) end of February?

If anyone is interested why don't we mention it with a big "I'm in"

Me first:

I'M IN
