Piggy back of off Taharris' post about commemorative pipes

I didn't want to steal Taharris' thread, but wanted to add to the idea and get some help from you guys.

While Taharris just made an awesome pipe that was a father's commission for his son in the military, I recently made a pipe for a Marine, who wanted a custom American made pipe for his upcoming retirement.

Unfortunately, his celebration was tattered to bits, because a few days ago he learned that his son (also a Marine) just died in the line of duty. While it won't mean anything to him now, I'd like to make him a pipe to commemorate his Son's life. Do any of you know if there are any official colors or symbols to commemorate such a tragic event?

Thanks.

Brian.

wow...
That is terrible news.

It's hard to even imagine what that family is going through.

I can't really remember anything that we gave surviving family members besides the flags that were on their sons, husbands, and fathers coffin beforre we lowered the casket in the grave... not a lot a fun..

But if you want to make something commemorative, something along the line of a shadow box is what we get at retirement... you can look under this link for many many ideas.. http://goatlocker.org/cposale.htm .. if you know what unit he was in you can look it up but the pipe in flag sholding shadow box would be something nice in my opinion.. the shadow box could have a folded flag as the background, hold the pipe, and open up as a pipe cabinet does..

tragedy comes at the worst times...

Getting out of the military is normally the shadow box. KIA is normally boots, rifle and helmet. *EDIT* Let me clarify that, that's the symbol, they don't give the family that.

Thanks guys. I'll have to see if there's something I can do with this info.

I appreciate it.
