hi from northern nevada
i have been doing exotic wood wooking for a few years.
I enjoy looking and learning about different styles of wood working.
one question is the wood taste of a pipe. this is not a concern ?

The only real concern for pipes is toxicity. Many like the 'taste' of briar, olivewood, etc.
