Second pipe "Greenie"

Post by MonsieurLabo »

I have been lurking in the shadows of this forum for a long time...

Second pipe made, first with a lathe. Micro lathe (Taig). It can be done but with smaller blocks and is time consuming to set up. This is my first hand cut stem.

Looks very good, although I think you still have some scratch marks on top of your stem, or is that just in the photos?
You did a great job bringing out the grains with that stain!

Yep, victim of the round file. I cant sand them out without taking too much off of the stem :banghead:

Hah! Very cute. For a second pipe that one is great. I love the green stain. You did a very nice job. I think all you need is a little practice.

Not bad at all! Nice stain job. As previously stated, you did a great job getting that grain to pop.

That gold band really helps the green grain pop. Makes me think of money with a money clip... perfect for all your poker winnings.

After reworking; I had went from 400 to 1000 grit as I had nothing in between. So, i sanded everything back down with 600 (Stained with black again and sanded with 600) then went to 1000 and crocus cloth then stained with green again. I wanted darker green originally and it did darken after rework. Compound buff and wax followed. More work was done in the stem slot. The opening still looks crap but better crap.

The shank bugs me as it has the amateurish pregnant area where the ring is.
