The Power of Story

So this isn't directly related to pipe making but as an artist I think it's inspiring. I also think this is highly applicable to pipe making. When we create anything, what keeps us interested?

And so I'll ask the question that may or may not elicit any response:

How can a pipe tell a story?

The pipe's going to tell a story whether you want it to or not. It may not be the story you intended it to tell but pipes just aren't duplicitous and they're going to tell it the way they want to. So be nice to them.

Estate pipes are the worst; they can't keep a secret to save their hot little lives.

I think you're on to something Uber. First there was Toys, then Cars and now, coming soon in 3D . . . . Pipes! The Movie!

I can see it now... in a B&M in the heart of Minnesota, a lonely old estate bulldog that's been passed around but never found the owner that was perfect for it spends its days hanging with his other estate buddies at the local rack. Simultaneously, a pipe smoker who's never been able to find the pipe that was right for him goes on a mission to find the perfect bulldog pipe. Will these two find each other? Stay tuned!

:P

I make pens, along with pipes. All my pens have a story, of where the wood was.... aquired, yup well say aquired, from. Some pretty boring, others pretty colorful.

I thought pipes couldn't have a story till a customer keep asking for a pipe with a "foreskin" stem... naturally I trimmed the shank with some Walrus Oosik.
