I don't have physical access to this pipe, but from the picture, all I can make out for a stamp on the stem is "ITALY". Does anyone recognize this work well enough to offer a suggestion on who may have made it?

My guess is basket. Seriously though, I have no idea. Sorry. No help here.

I believe Luigi made the pipe and Mario the stem, both worked from different locations, one in a basket factory and the other in an asylum.

I agree, it is a POS. That's part of the reason of why I'm asking. The pipe belongs to one of my uncles. My current mission pipe-wise is to make him a good pipe to replace it.
