Bad rod draw of the luck?

Post by Charl »

Just finished the first stem from a new ebonite rod I received. The material itself seem to finish sort of more grey than black, keep showing scratches even after repeatedly going through my normal stages of sanding (with "dull" spots as well) and also seem to be much softer than previous rods. Is it the draw of the luck? Should I just say dammit, throw it in the rubbish and grab the next rod? I've heard talk that it happens, and if so, how often should it be expected? 10% of the time? 50%?

Not going to drop names, its a from a supplier we all know and you can PM me if you really want to know. Maybe I should sent it back, like you said, Chris. Will also see if I can get time to take a photo to post here.

Pretty rare for just one rod to be bad. Usually it's the whole batch.
