Lemon pipe....
Lemon pipe....
the wood is lemon, combined with german ebonite and bamboo....

I had to look at it twice... nice execution.. I personally like the transition from bamboo to ring(s) to pipe and mouthpiece.
The only thing I don't like about it are the white rings.. it distracts (me) from the flow from light to dark... a gradual transition would have been more appealing for me.
Love your mouthpiece..

Lemon wood? Nice. Looks like it is pretty dense and it has a fairly tight grain. I've never seen Lemon wood used in pipe making. Pretty interesting look. What was it like to work with? esp. compared to briar? And what grit did you sand up to to get such a nice finish?

Re: Lemon pipe....
tNd, would you be able to shed some light on where I may be able to pick up some lemon wood?
Thanks,

Re: Lemon pipe....
Interesting stuff! I've done pipes from guava and orange tree wood before, and they're smoking pretty well.
On the pipe, you're dimensions regarding the bamboo are wrong to my eye. From stummel to first knuckle, and then last knuckle to "knuckle on stem, should be equal to the distance between the 2 knuckles of the bamboo. Or alternatively, be shorter but equal lengths. The stem also doesn't work for me, could maybe be a tad longer.

Hi Danijel,
This is a spectacular looking lemon wood pipe.I really like how you combined the bamboo together with the uniquely shaped bit.Only the second white ring is a little touch to much, but that is my personal felling.
Great work,keep em' coming!
Best,
Abi
Sorringowl @ :There are some lemon-wood pipes from renown makers like Tom Spanu http://www.theitalianpipe.com/pipes/sp/lemon.htm
and here are some pipes from osage orange wich is a similar wood to the Lemon tree ;

Re: Lemon pipe....
Wow, very unique pipe...very beautiful. I think it would look a little better if there were less of a contrast with the transition pieces, but this is still a great looking pipe.

Re: Lemon pipe....
Very nice. Add some sweet tobacco and humidity, and you have Lemonade.
The colors, form, overall, great looking pipe.

Re: Lemon pipe....
Oooh...I really like this pipe. Nice job. The only thing that I see that could be improved is that the shank tapers too drasticly from bamboo to bowl. If it was thinner towards the bowl it would work better, IMHO. But, I still think it's a striking pipe.
Re: Lemon pipe....
I am sorry that my reply took this long to get here - i was not available ...
first thing first...
thank You all for your kind comments...!!
...
@Sorringowl - lemon wood is similar to a very hard bog oak wood... very hard to sand, heavy and dense wood.... the grit is regular as with morta and briar... in my case i use 180, 220, 330, 400, 500, 800, 1200, 2000 but here i think that i have not used grit 2000...
@HumblePipe - from what i know lemon wood can be found at Manno Briar... try also to get some Carbezzolo wood (italian word) - very nice wood, sweet in taste and looks similar to briar when stained....
@wdteipen - i know what you are trying to say to me regarding the shank - but the bamboo is very thin - i think the diameter of the bamboo was arround 9mm only so i was scared to use that thin lemon wood (i don't know if it will crack if to thin) so i inserted the inox tube inside the bamboo and arround 1cm into the lemon wood just ot be sure that lemon wood will have enought thickness not to brake... that was the reason for making it that thick ner the bowl - i agree it would look better if thinner but i wanted to be safe...

Re: Lemon pipe....
I agree, it would be nicer if it was more similar to the lines in the bamboo. I think the dramatic stem is a mistake. Unless you NEVER clench (in which case why go to the trouble of making a stem when a tube would suffice?) this won't be very comfortable. You need a much more gradual slope after the button.wdteipen wrote:The only thing that I see that could be improved is that the shank tapers too [drastically] from bamboo to bowl.
The colors are nice, and the wood is pretty cool though.
Re: Lemon pipe....
Ahh...that makes perfect sense. I'm not at all familiar with lemon wood. I'm so used to working with briar I automatically assume all wood is as dense and hard. Nice work still.tNd wrote:@wdteipen - i know what you are trying to say to me regarding the shank - but the bamboo is very thin - i think the diameter of the bamboo was arround 9mm only so i was scared to use that thin lemon wood (i don't know if it will crack if to thin) so i inserted the inox tube inside the bamboo and arround 1cm into the lemon wood just ot be sure that lemon wood will have enought thickness not to brake... that was the reason for making it that thick ner the bowl - i agree it would look better if thinner but i wanted to be safe...
Re: Lemon pipe....
Oh, and I forgot to add that I like the stemwork. It reminds me a lot of Abi Natur's stem styling. Very unique and attractive, IMHO. In appearance it doesn't look as comfortable but Abi assures that it is. One of these days I'll have to find out for myself.
Re: Lemon pipe....
I would sure recommend You to try it
