"Flannery O'Connell"...

Post by JMG »

I told myself that I was not going to post this pipe at all on here, as it is quite a step backwards as far as quality is concerned, but what the heck. As I posted about it on another forum I'm on, it has a myriad of problems, but the whole thing was pumped out in a little over 2 hours from start to finish. The stain is grossly uneven & the shank walls are scarily thin, among other issues, but this little sucker has been smoking like a champ. Hopefully it will make a good little knock about pipe.

Wow, that's cool - "camouflage staining" ... 2 hours  ? Amazing ... after 2 hours, I usually have a block of briar with bores in it, and a piece of ebonite rod with a tenon and a bore.
Congrats, like it much !

In full disclosure, that is most definitely a premolded stem.

If I meant the author, then yes...Todd, you'd be correct...but I didn't.

Hi George ,
It has Irish green blood flowing in its Bruyere veins, this O'Connell! It is to my view a correctly executed classical shape in a amazingly short period of Time !
I like this little sucker...just because!

Best,
Abi

1st of all let me start by saying your pipe came out looking very nice indeed. 2nd, how did you give it that green glossy tint? I don't think i have ever seen a pipe that color before. definitely gives the pipe an Irish theme. Good work! :D

Thanks man. I just used a Feibing's leather dye (Kelly Green,) they've got all sorts of crazy colors..started with a black base coat, first. After that I just buffed it as usual with brown tripoli, white diamond, and finished with carnuba.

I'm confused... I took it to be a typo/brain fart. Now I'm curious who Flannery O'Connell is - does she do your camo staining?
