The Flaw...

This is one of five pipes I've made and probably one of my favorites. The original block had a deep 'dimple' filled with bark in the plateaux. While picking the junk out, I found the pit was over an inch deep! I shaped the block until hitting the opening from the side and decided it was too unique to remove completely. To me, it enhances the fact it's a natural material.

I like it. Nice pipe too! How does it smoke?

Thanks for the compliment. It smokes as well as my other pipes and better than some I've bought. Maybe the block is rewarding me for taking a chance on it. I started out with more of a billiard shape in mind to practice on symmetry. Don't know how it ended up with that boat-prow and it's visually bulky at the bowl/shank transition, too. Let's just say the wood made more decisions than I did.

I have a flaw hall of fame... I should take a few shots of it...
