tennon replace

Post by FoxGuy »

just wanting to make sure I am thinking somewhat reasonable ( for me that is which doesn't say much) just dropped my Peterson pipe broke the tennon it left a jagged break on the stem. To make sure i am aproching this right I am just wanting a second opinion or help if wrong.

To start I need to file/sand the rough burs on the stem somewhat smooth use a counter sink then drill to fit a new tennon,glue/epoxy
size tennon to fit shank square stem as needed to fit shank.....Correct?

thanks for your support!

If you have both parts of the tennon this is what I do.

I have a range of stainless steel tubes for this fix, drill out the tennon and a short way into the shank so that it will take one of the tubes, glue the three together and then use a needle file to remove any step in the airway. If done neatly the repair hardly shows.

If you use your method a tip from Staffwalker (I think) use a drill bit inserted through the tennon and into the airway to make sure everything is in line.
